Perched on the Emilia-Romagna coast—one of the most famous Italian regions for nature, art, and food just 20km from Ravenna—is the town of Cervia. This ancient fishing village, nicknamed the City of Salt, was known during the Roman Empire for its fine sand and wide, centuries-old pinewood. In the 1800s, Cervia became a renowned tourist destination, and in 1912 the garden city of Milano Marittima was created, quickly becoming one of the most glamorous seaside towns in Italy. For all these reasons and more, Cervia has been selected to host the biggest IRONMAN weekend in Europe, becoming the destination of athletes of all levels from around Europe and the world.
The adventure starts in the calm waters of Romagna, where athletes will take on the 1.9km swim course. Once completed, athletes will pass through the Natural Park of the Cervia Salt Pans, the natural habitat of pink flamingos, and bike for 90km surrounded by history and nature. Finally, the 21.1km run will take athletes through Cervia and past Milano Marittima’s most prominent landmarks, leading athletes to become finishers of the IRONMAN 70.3 Italy Emilia-Romagna.
IRONMAN 70.3 Italy Emilia-Romagna offers 35 qualifying slots for the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand.
